This interpretive sign highlights how plants and animals make use of a seasonal stream in both wet and dry times of year. I developed the concept and design of the sign and selected a set of organisms that represent a wide variety of strategies for coping with fluctuations in water availability in different seasons. I was constrained by a requirement to use only two colors, and used that to help emphasize the species and the changes in their environment. My final design is eye-catching and easy to read from the trail.
The sign will be placed along Cold Creek in Stebbins Cold Canyon Reserve, part of the UC Natural Reserve System.
